Organizing a Virtual Medical Convention? Learn how PCCP did theirs.

Annual conferences give its participants a chance to upgrade their learning and touch base with their colleagues every year. Particularly medical conferences that medical professionals look forward to and diligently attend. The pandemic posed a challenge for such conferences but it also brought about a creative alternative.

While in-person and on-ground conferences are not allowed, most conferences have converted to online through Zoom. But for medical societies like the Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP), they aim to give delegates a full immersive experience to simulate real live conventions. So PCCP’s Red Pulmo Convention takes it to a whole new level.

Sessions that keep participants learning and engaged

The PCCP Red Pulmo held its 40th annual convention from March 2 to 5.  The four-day virtual event was packed with live sessions and speakers discussing a variety of topics on respiratory health and the medical landscape at present.

An interactive 360 degree lobby welcomed them with ready-to-click  hotspots to go to different rooms and halls. The virtual conference was tailor designed to have convenient navigation, especially for an event that had over 60 talks. Doctors can keep track of their sessions through their Schedule Assistant which dynamically reminds them of the on-going and upcoming sessions based on their sessions of choice.

Plenary and Symposia sessions kept participants informed and engaged through live chat, interaction with speakers like Q&A and polling. On the last day of the conference, they are rewarded with CPD units which are reflected on their e-certificates downloaded from the virtual venue.

Booths that showcase product and innovation

At a typical on-ground conference, booth sponsors are staples to check out the latest in products and innovations.

For the PCCP Red Pulmo Virtual Convention, the sponsors’ booths were still present and featured videos, brochures, a photo booth, and a live chat where helpful representatives from pharmaceutical companies can answer questions instantly.

Virtual event activities that keep it interesting

Should participants want to take a break from attending sessions, they can also visit the Research Hall, socialize at the Networking Lounge, and take a look at their fellow doctors’ Photo Exhibit.

A photo booth was set up for participants to take a commemorative photo of their attendance. These selfies went straight to the mosaic wall, a collection of all the selfies taken during the virtual event that would then form the event mural.

The PCCP Red Pulmo Convention also gamified the experience as doctors could earn points by engaging in all parts of the microsite and they are rewarded through raffle entries. Five winners were chosen and announced daily to win gift certificates during the four-day event.
